A big update and a big change

So here we are – week 25… almost half a year of eating pretty much nothing and mostly having 600kcal per day…

I’ve not updated the blog for a few weeks but a fair bit has changed so it’s really time for an update and time to try and motivate myself into updating a bit more often.

The week back from the US trip actually went pretty well – I lost 10lb in the following week so I was back on track and had managed to stick to the plan fairly well.    The subsequent two weeks however were not as good and I found it really tough to stick to it – my motivation had gone and I was getting pretty bored of the chocolate shake (the only one I really liked) and the toffee and fudge bars… LighterLife also isn’t the cheapest of diets so it was costing me a fortune to lose 1 or 2lb a week.   To give an idea it was about £60 for the food and £15 for the counselling / weigh in – which has obviously been worth it as I’ve lost almost 90lb.

So earlier this week I decided I needed a change.

I really like Lighter Life.    It has really helped change my life and given me more confidence than I’ve ever had in my adult life.

But I do wonder if they have got a bit lazy and taken things for granted – perhaps because of the increased concentration on their 5:2 plan and Superdrug deal.

Other competitors are coming out with different packs and flavours and offer amazing online support but LL don’t seem to have changed anything in the 6 months that I have been there, other than bringing in some jelly.     I honestly think that they need to up their game plan a litte.

So I’ve moved supplier.    I went out on Wednesday night to a restaurant to a Gordon Ramsey restaurant and took a day off and had an amazing steak that I appreciated more considering the amount of time it had been since I last eat such a thing!

And today I started the new plan.    I ordered a bunch of different options from Slim & Save whose meal choices is so much more varied – to give an example the have 18 shake flavours compared to LL’s 4.

I’ve also opted to go for a 3 pack a day option with a small high protein meal instead of four packs which adds on about an extra 50kcal per day but I think will make a big different to my life and help me stick to the plan.   I’m excited about the change but if the weight loss doesn’t continue then I know I can go back to Lighter Life if needed.

I still need to think of a nice way of explaining this to my councillor though who has been massively supportive so far..

On another note the exercise regime does continue to go well.   I’ve kept up with doing a 5k on Saturdays and last week got my time down to 34 minutes from the original 44 when we started earlier in the year.   I’m also happy to say that I got through the ballot for the Ride 100 London on the 2nd August which is a 100 mile cycle lasting around 8hrs in the middle of summer.   Did I just say happy?   Lots of training to do for this but exciting times none the less and something to aim towards which will hopefully keep me on track.

So now time for the usual update..

So I have now gone past target 6 and next week I should have lost over 30% of my original weight…  Time to start looking around for a tattoo I guess..

Back from the USA

So I took a week off whilst I was away in the USA – which really means that I took about 2 weeks off as my mind was telling me before hand “well you’re going away, you may as well eat this” during the week before I went.

Originally I told myself that I’d eat well, get some exercise in and not aim to put weight on.

What actually happened is I ate terribly (lots of wings and some great ribs!) and drank a lot of booze!   I didn’t stick to the plan at all and only managed one gym session despite both of my hotels having gym access.

So tonight I went to weigh in and two weeks since my last weigh in I had put on 5lb – and 8lb since my great week of 10lb loss after Christmas.   It’s not great – and it’s set me back, but it could have been worse!

This week is going to be tough!   Really need to get back on the plan, back into keto and have a big weight loss week..

BOOM! Back with a bang!

I thought it might be a good week this week and guess what?  It bloody well was!  Ignoring the first week (where it’s all water loss) it’s been my best week yet and tonight at weigh in I’d lost a massive 10lb in one week!   Here is what that looks like:

That brings my total weight loss since I started on the 2nd September to exactly 6st! I’m now also 98kg- under 100kg for the first time in my adult life.

I can’t thank Lighter Life enough for turning my life around and for all my friends and family for their constant support… Whenever I post a photo or msg on Facebook I get such amazing comments and every one of them has really helped ensure that I keep going at this… but I still I have a long way to go!

Time for a quick update then…

Going to the US on the Saturday after next and I’m currently thinking that I’ll take the week off from the plan and enjoy myself, even if I put a few lb on so it would be amazing to try and be under 15st by the time I get on the plan..  11 days to lose 7lb?   Doable, I think!

So yesterday I did this…

I decided on Friday afternoon that Saturday would be a good day to do my first Park Run.    I had done zero prep for it as despite doing cardio 3 times a week for the past 8 weeks or so, I’ve not done running at all.

It was hard work but very fun and rewarding.   I could have probably gone a little faster as I was running with a family member but the thing that mattered was completing it – especially as it was raining and very muddy…  Despite doing a 10k a couple of years ago I never really got into or enjoyed running – but I found it a lot easier after losing the weight I have and am already planning on doing it again next week.

If any of my local friends want to join me, let me know!

First update of 2015

So I’ve not updated for a few weeks as Christmas kind of got in the way of blogging… and weight loss!  I ended up eating far too much of all the wrongs things despite my best intentions and put on 3lb – the first time I’ve gained weight since I started the plan in September.

Since then (Monday) I’ve got straight back into it and my scales at home suggest that I’ve already lost somewhere between 6-8lb within the space of a few days,  meaning I have high hopes for next week’s weigh in.   I feel like I’ve found my mojo again and am finding it a lot easier to stick to the plan than I did before Christmas.   Perhaps the few days off and the gain was exactly what I needed?   I also feel like I’ve got so much more energy & have been busy getting things done in the garden and the house.

I found a good website on pinterest this week called Modelmydiet – which shows what you the “average” body type looks like at different weights, here is my start weight and current weight..

And here it is with my start vs. my goal..   Be interesting to see how it compares to my before and after photos when I am at goal!

The good thing about Christmas was that I got lots of new clothes and vouchers – it was so nice to be able to go and shop in “real” shops and buy stuff that fits- some even at a size L, rather than XXL or even XXXL where I was when I started.

Really excited about getting to my goal in 2015.   Will update again to share how the week pans out after weight in on Tuesday evening.

A better week

So another Tuesday night is over and done with which means another weekly weigh in has happened!    After a couple of fairly shit weeks for the plan I am a bit more back on track this week and feel really happy tonight.

It’s not been a perfect week but I think I’ve realised now that the perfect week is always going to be very challenging as I continued to battle my food addiction.   That being said I have had 4 out of 7 days where I have done the plan correctly and I’ve put in some good shifts at the gym to increase my exercise levels.

I was really worried going into class this week that I had not lost the target of 4lb that I set last week.   I think if I had not lost it I would have ended up being pretty pissed off.

But I did.  This week I lost 5lb – so have now hit my next target and lost 71lb – which is 5st 1lb since I started this plan on the 2nd September.

Here is an image I found… the fish below weighs in at 70lb…

I’m feeling much better and really motivated to keep going – I’m going to start my 8 weeks maintenance when I hit 9st and am now just over half way towards my target weight.   With just 2 more weeks till Christmas I am hoping that I can go into Christmas day being under 16st.. which could even happen next week if I have another good week and build upon what I’ve done this week.

So here’s a target update to finish off todays post.

Day 94 Update

Another day, another update.

  • Cheat free days – 0… Failed again yesterday with a bit of chicken and some pasta that the kids had for dinner… Stupid stuff – same old shit.
  • Steps – 12,396 (over 10k target)
  • Sleep  – 7hrs 37mins
  • Exercise – 10 mins stationary bike, 10 mins treadmill, 10 mins cross trainer, 10 mins (sitting) bike, 15 mins swim

Annoyed that I cheated again yesterday and need to keep on track today.    On a positive note, really enjoying the cardio and starting to be able to push myself a little more each time that I go.   Two more visits planned (Sunday and Tuesday) before the next weigh in.    Ideally I need to start using the WiiFit again and doing a bit more yoga as that has taken a backseat the past few weeks, so I may give that a go tonight when Kieran is at Scouts..

Seeing the inlaws and Lindsey’s family for an early Christmas celebration this weekend – so need to stay away from the turkey!

Day 93 Update

As mentioned in my post yesterday I am going to try and update the blog each day with a small update to keep me motivated.

So here is an update for yesterday, which was day 93 of the plan.

  • Cheat free days – 1
  • Steps 8851 (under 10k goal)
  • Sleep – 5hrs 44mins
  • Exercise – None 🙁

Was a good day back on the plan – had 2 bars and 2 shake packs and lots of water.   Went to a party and continued to stay away from the booze and still had a good time.

Exciting moment of the day was that my Fitbit Aria scales arrived – so now have the Flex & the Aria and am getting really into the ecosystem.  I’ve not been able to keep away from scales but the ones I had were terrible and unreliable so hopefully having some decent ones will be better and help me see how I am getting along in the week!

Week 13 Update – A bad few weeks

No blog update last week and the main reasons for this is that I’ve had a bad couple of weeks on the plan – something that I’m pretty annoyed and ever so slightly embarrassed about.

Things WERE going really well – I could not make the meeting on Tuesday last week so had to go on the Sunday before last instead, so a few day early. That is when the problems started.

In the week before that Sunday I was really motivated and had followed the plan 100% – had a really good week at it. My expectations, especially as I was going in a morning (where your weight is generally at it’s lowest) were pretty high… and then I lost just 2lb. Don’t get me wrong – 2lb is still 2lb and on a non-lighterlife diet that would be a fairly decent result for a week, but when you are eating nothing but two bars and two shakes a day it is seen as a bit disappointing to say the least.

Looking back at it and rationalising it is easy – I’d started to exercise more that week and I was going on the Sunday rather than the Tuesday, etc. But at the time I didn’t rationalise it – I think my mind instead though “fuck it – if I am only going to lose 2lb, I might as well bloody well have some food!”

So for the next week and a half I cheated nearly every day – not on anything big – but small snacks here and there that bought me out of ketosis and stopped me from losing the weight that I would expect to lose on the plan.

So this week I skipped the football (which considering we lost 1-0 in the freezing cold wasn’t a bad thing) and made sure that I got to class. I am going to attempt to blog every day with an update on how many days I have had without cheating, so let’s start with today.

Days without cheating – 0

Hopefully tomorrow that number will go up!

On a positive note – despite having a couple of bad weeks – I did lose 3lb (so 5lb since my last update) – bring my weight to under 17st and over 4 and a half stone lost. If I have a good week then I should hit the 5st mark next Tuesday night. This week is also meant to be a milk week – where I am allowed 1pint of skimmed milk a day. Because of the last couple of weeks I’m currently thinking that I will skip this, but we’ll see how the week gets on.

Here is the updated targets for the week.

Target 1 – Lose 14lb (1 stone) – Reward – Destiny for Xbox One – DONE
Target 2 – Lose 25lb – DONE 23/09/14
Target 3 – Lose 35lb – DONE 07/10/14
Target 4 – Lose 50lb – DONE 05/10/14  Amazon Fire TV or Raspberry Pi
Target 5 – Lose 70lb
Target 6 – Lose 85lb
Target 7 – Lose 100lb – Reward – Tattoo!
Target 8 – Loose 115lb (original goal)
Target 9 – Loose 125lb
FINAL GOAL – Loose 140lb (10st) – Reward – Wedding Ring
PROGRESS: 66lb gone – 74lb to go (47.14% gone) – 22% of original weight lost

I’ve also updated my weight lose chart – and you can really see how the past few weeks have had an impact on my target and how long I will be on the programme for.   Really need to have a couple of big weeks of loss which considering that I have added more exercise into my life should be possible.
